Test Repository Performance Audit
An innovative 3G telecommunications company utilised HP Mercury TestDirector for software defect tracking and as a repository for all of their testing documentation. The TestDirector implementation had slowed significantly, causing considerable delays for all users when accessing the repository for critical test documentation.
An investigation was performed to evaluate the performance of TestDirector. The investigation was split into three main areas of work; discussions with company personnel to gain a full appreciation of the performance issues; a customised series of time and system resource-based performance tests to analyse the stresses on a TestDirector client, a TestDirector server and the TestDirector database server; and off-site research to gain further insight into the TestDirector implementation and to explore possible solutions.
A detailed report was presented to the telecommunications company and, by following the report's recommendations, the TestDirector issues were resolved and access to the TestDirector repository was reduced to within expected time frames.
